New Merry Hill Youth Hub opens

‘Routes - Dudley’, a new Youth Hub in Merry Hill shopping centre, was opened on the 18th of October by the Mayor of Dudley - Councillor Hilary Bills. The youth friendly space is operated by a service called Cranstoun that has been helping local people rebuild their lives for over 50 years. Cranstoun whose company motto is ‘Empowering people, empowering change’ hopes to provide a safe and welcoming environment for people aged 13-25. The hub will provide advice on areas including but not limited to mental health, education and career planning and support young people (over the age of 16) to stop vaping/ using e-cigarettes and give additional support to young people who need it, for example: young people suffering from domestic abuse. Advisors will be available to ensure resources and support is prompt and relevant. Young people can access this support, information and advice through walk-ins on Tuesday-Friday 3pm-7pm and Saturday 10am-2pm.

Young Reporters at KEDST!

With the recent additions of Year 12 journalists writing for The Campus Collective, three have been specially selected to write for the Stourbridge News. I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing our journalists – Anna Rizos, Phoebe Neech, and Alfie Poole – getting to know more about them as journalists, and as people navigating life around college! Through Sa series of questions, I was able to gain more understanding of who they were as individuals, discussing things such as their A-Level choices, their preferred style of writing, and some of the things they have learnt along the way!

The Death of the High Street

I am sure everyone can agree that online shopping makes life much more convenient and products much more accessible. You can search on an international market and receive your order as soon as the next day. However, online shopping has drawn business away from local stores, resulting in a declining local economy, and causing closures on our high streets.

We Will Remember Them

Imagine walking down the street, your eyes trailing towards a sea of poppies pinned to the hearts of people you pass. Imagine discovering that each shop window you glance into is framed by red and black and sporting the phrase ‘Lest We Forget’. Imagine your mental shopping list being interrupted by the tannoy in a local supermarket, announcing a sobering two minute silence.
