The World of Celebrity Makeup Brands

Many argue that celebrities seemingly possess everything — talent, fame, and wealth. However, it has become increasingly common for them to veer away from their original passions and branch off into the realm of cosmetics. Is there a genuine necessity for yet another lip gloss shade when there are already thousands in existence?

From Selena Gomez's widely acclaimed ‘Rare Beauty’ to Kylie Jenner's skyrocketing success with ‘Kylie Cosmetics’, let's embark on a journey through the world of celebrity makeup brands.

To begin, numerous celebrity makeup brands have achieved remarkable success. For instance, Rihanna's ‘Fenty Beauty’, launched in 2017, gained widespread acclaim for its inclusive range of 50 shades. Rihanna’s products are not only hugely successful but also serve as a model for other brands, demonstrating how to effectively cater to a diverse society.

Another prosperous makeup brand is Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty.Distinguishing itself with a mission to "break down unrealistic standards of perfection”, Rare Beauty stands out in the industry by emphasising the significance of mental health by promoting “educating the community” alongside the sale of their high-quality makeup products.

In addition to this, numerous makeup brands receive recognition for their commitment to sustainability, cruelty-free practices, and vegan-friendly formulations. An example is ‘r.e.m. beauty‘ by Ariana Grande, showcasing the brand’s adherence to good morals and ethics.

Despite this, opinions on celebrity brands vary; some argue that having the founder actively involved in product creation gives these brands credibility, while others see them as no different from regular brands, with a celebrity's name merely slapped on the packaging for financial gain and an easy cash grab.

When gathering opinions on celebrity makeup brands, one respondent remarked: “A lot of the time, celebrities are just trying to make more money and definitely don’t put the right ingredients in. Some people, like Kylie Jenner, actually know what they’re doing, considering her history in cosmetics and brand owning. But for someone like Hailey Bieber, is it really a need?”

Another interviewee stated: “Although I don’t wear a lot of makeup, I think it’s quite stupid, because celebrities are celebrities and not makeup experts, therefore they are doing something that isn’t their job. It’s like having a doctor go make a random music video instead of diagnosing people and saving lives. Besides, most of the time they simply just sign their name to it.”

In conclusion, celebrity makeup brands have both positive and negative aspects. While some argue that celebrities are thriving and flourishing from this new experience of creating cosmetics, others may contend that certain artists, such as Rihanna haven’t released a new album in eight years, and they may be focusing on their brands a little too much and neglecting their music fans as a result.

So, what are your thoughts on this matter, and would you consider trying a makeup product crafted by a celebrity?
