Since Labour have taken charge of our country they have promised to make a great deal of change, some being in the education system. In this article I will lay out the education reforms made by the government.
- Labour have decided to review bursaries and recruit more teachers with a focus on shortage subjects - e.g. physics and maths.
- Review the curriculum and assessments - including input from those closer to students e.g. parents, school staff.
- Review how we sit tests and mix them in with more holistic approaches, to help those with certain mental health issues.
- Ensure access to specialist mental health professionals.
- Requiring all schools to cooperate with local authority- in matters including new admissions etc.
- Replacing single-word Ofsted judgements with a report card system.
- Limiting the number of branded school clothes to help those with financial needs.
- Free breakfast clubs in all primary schools.
The Department of Education has stated that they will put great focus on the children of the UK’s education, to improve the quality, accessibility and equity of education in the UK. We will only be able to see if these changes make a positive difference to the UK’s children in the near future, but these reforms may be a positive start to making the education system a place where children can thrive and achieve greatness regardless of external issues, such as finance and mental health challenges.
